Inspiration and THINKING…

7th

ELEMENTS: Line and Shape

SKILLS: Understanding Organic and Geometric lines and Shapes, Using variety

Can I create a work of art with organic lines and shapes on one side and geometric lines and shapes on the other half?

What is an idea for demonstrating the differences?

8th

ELEMENTS & PRINCIPLES: Space,Line

SKILLS: creating illusions of space through objects going In, Out, Over and Under and recalling overlapping

MATERIALS: White Paper, Black Sharpie color pencils

What the method to make objects appear like they are overlapping?

Can I demonstrate a loop and IOOU?

What is a creative scene that can use IOOU?

  9th

ELEMENTS: Form, Space, Value, Perspective and color theory, value

SKILLS: Discovering 3 dimensional objects, shading using light sources, affecting objects with perspective, ellipses, creating monochromatic, complementary, triadic, and analogous color schemes, value and intensity

MATERIALS:  Paper, Pencils, color pencils, markers, Erasers, sketchbooks
How Do I use what I know about forms and overlapping to correctly draw a still life?

How do Value  and contour lines make objects look 3-D?

Do any objects in my still life use ellipses, one point or two point perspective?

What is the difference between value and intensity?

10th

ELEMENTS: Value

SKILLS: Contour line drawing, Charcoal, smudging, additive and subtractive drawing techniques.

MATERIALS: Toned gray paper, white pencil, charcoal, smudge sticks
How can I illustrate my dream on toned paper?

Which two techniques can I use to show more values in my artwork?

Still Lives

video
Here is a video of some 9th Age ladies working on their still life drawings. These masterful drawings show an understanding of Art Elements Value, Form and Space. These later get quartered and each fourth becomes a color theory study. Look for monochromatic, complementary, triadic, and analogous still lives soon!

Five Minute Museum Artist of the Week

The Five minute museum Artist of the Week is Flossy-P. We had alot of discussion in the Art Studio about how her face is distorted and resembles a bird's face more than a human's. This is a segue to the new 9th Age project, using mixed media. Flossy-P uses many different materials and techniques in this piece, called "Curiosity". Can you name some?

Can I create a work of art using ALL the lines plus overlapping?

Why should I use a number two brush to outline?

How will I use what I know about lines and proper paint brush technique to design my work?

What scene from over 100 years ago will be my inspiration?

Five Minute Museum Artist of the Week

You have to check out Kirina Smigla-Bobinski's Helium Filled Kinetic Sculpture. If you have a chance look the video up on You-Tube you will be amazed. In the meantime, what do you think this could be? It is a floating sculpture with charcoal spikes sticking all over it. The installation is trapped inside a small room and the charcoal drags along along the gallery walls as participants, twirl, toss, and interact with it.Is the artist Kirina, the viewers, or maybe the ball? I really urge you to look at the video! My artists are LOVING this one!

Five Minute Museum Artist of the Week

Mr. Bishop found this artist and was excited for me to share it with my art students. Scott Wade took scribbling "wash me" on a dirty car to a whole other level! He intentionally muddies the windows of a car then brushes away the mess to create his masterpieces. Very unconventional and fun!

Five Minute Museum Artist of the Week

Tyree Callahan's "Chromatic Typewriter" was a hit this week. He replaced the letter stamps and ink with water color paint. Then he painted the keys to correspond. He says that he "painted a paragraph" or "typed a painting". Pretty neat, huh?
